If you have spent years training people in your industry — formally or informally — you may already have much of the knowledge and skill that TAE40122 covers. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the process that allows that existing capability to be formally assessed and credited toward your qualification.

RPL is not a shortcut or a reduced-quality pathway. It is a rigorous assessment process that requires you to demonstrate your existing competency against the same standards as students who complete the full programme. The difference is that instead of working through new learning content, you are gathering evidence of what you already know and do.

  • Assessment tools you have designed or used

  • Records of training delivery, such as attendance records, feedback forms or delivery logs

  • References or statements from employers, managers or learners

The amount of credit you receive through RPL depends on what you can demonstrate. Some people are able to complete TAE40122 almost entirely through RPL; others complete RPL for some units and undertake learning for others.
