Step 6: Review the Partnership Agreement Carefully

The partnership agreement — whether a Third Party Agreement or a Service Level Agreement — is the legal document that governs the relationship between the school and the RTO. It is essential that school leadership reviews this document carefully before signing.

Key things to look for include:

• A clear allocation of responsibilities between the school and the RTO
• Explicit statements about who manages compliance, assessment, and reporting
• Termination clauses — what happens if either party needs to exit the arrangement
• Provisions for student withdrawal and associated funding adjustments
• Intellectual property ownership of any resources developed for the program
• Insurance and liability arrangements
