Step 5: Understand What Administrative Support is Included

Unclear administrative responsibility is one of the most common sources of frustration in RTO partnerships.

One of the most common sources of frustration in RTO partnerships is unclear administrative responsibility. Before signing any agreement, schools should understand exactly what the RTO will manage and what will fall to school staff.

A well-structured RTO partnership should include:

  • Student enrolment processing and data management
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) registration support
  • Training and assessment strategy documentation
  • Attendance tracking and compliance record keeping
  • All reporting to ASQA, the Queensland Government, and other relevant bodies
  • Qualification and Statement of Attainment issuance to students
  • Regular communication with school staff about student progress

If an RTO expects your school staff to manage any of these functions, ask yourself whether your team has the capacity and expertise to do so compliantly.
