Step 3: Evaluate the RTO's Experience in Secondary Schools
Delivering to adult learners is not the same as delivering VETiS — school-specific experience matters.
There is a significant difference between an RTO that delivers to adult learners in workplace settings and one that specialises in secondary school delivery. VETiS programs require:
- Assessment tools that are age-appropriate and contextualised to a school environment
- Staff who understand the dynamics of working within a school system
- Flexibility to fit within school timetables and term structures
- Communication styles that suit school staff, not corporate HR departments
- An understanding of QCE credit implications and senior schooling requirements
When evaluating an RTO's school experience, ask specifically:
- How many secondary schools does the RTO currently partner with?
- How long has the RTO been delivering VETiS specifically (not just adult VET)?
- Can the RTO provide references from current school partners?
- Has the RTO's school delivery been subject to any ASQA audits, and what were the outcomes?
