  2. VET in Schools (VETiS)

Will the students' engagement in VETis while in school have any influence on their access to funded training opportunities after they complete their studies??

Participating in Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) while at school generally does not impact a student's ability to access funded training options after they leave school.

In Australia, there are several pathways available for students who have completed VETiS to continue their vocational education and training beyond school.

  1. Government Funding for Post-School Training: Many vocational qualifications, such as Certificate III and higher-level courses, are eligible for government funding for eligible individuals, regardless of whether they completed VETiS at school or not. These funding programs are typically offered through state and territory governments, and eligibility criteria may apply based on age, citizenship, residency status, and prior qualifications.

  2. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students who have completed VETiS at school and obtained relevant vocational qualifications may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when they pursue further education and training after school. RPL allows students to receive credit for the knowledge and skills they have already acquired, potentially reducing the duration and cost of future training programs.

  3. Direct Entry to Further Training: Having completed VETiS at school can provide students with a head start when transitioning to further vocational training. Some qualifications gained through VETiS may serve as a pathway to higher-level courses or apprenticeships, allowing students to enter specific industries with recognized skills and experience.

  4. Industry and Employment Opportunities: Students who complete VETiS and gain vocational qualifications while at school may be better prepared for entry-level positions in various industries. Having practical skills and industry-recognized certifications can enhance their employability and job prospects after leaving school.

It is important for students to research and explore the specific funding and education pathways available in their state or territory to ensure they make informed decisions about their post-school training options. Career advisors, vocational training providers, and school staff can provide valuable guidance and information to support students in making these choices.

Overall, participating in VETiS at school is often beneficial and can provide a solid foundation for students' vocational education and training journeys, offering valuable skills and opportunities as they transition to the next phase of their education and careers.

Funding rules change from time to time, and it's always best to check the advice on the State Training Authority website.
