The first TAE qualification was endorsed in 2010, followed by the TAE40116 in 2016 and the TAE40122 in 2022.

      For individuals interested in training in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, there are three qualification options available. These options include TAE40122, TAE40116, and TAE40110 plus 2 additional specified units. The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is considered the successor to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.

      Training Requirements and Qualification Options:

      1. TAE40122: The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the latest qualification option and is the successor to the TAE40116. It is designed for individuals who wish to become trainers and assessors in the VET sector.

      2. TAE40116: The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is a prior qualification that remains relevant for trainers and assessors in the VET industry. Holders of this qualification can continue to work as trainers and assessors without the requirement to upgrade to TAE40122.

      3. TAE40110 plus 2: Individuals who possess the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (plus 2 additional specified units) are also eligible to work as trainers and assessors in the VET sector. This option remains valid and does not require an upgrade to TAE40122.

      Industry Consensus on Transition: Based on industry consensus, there is no indication of any immediate changes to the standards for who can train in the VET sector.   The RTO Standards of 2015 are currently under review, including the requirements for trainers and assessors in the VET Sector.  Stay tuned!
