TAE40122 for Teachers — Why Your School May Require It for VETiS Delivery

Teaching registration is not enough for VET delivery in schools — here is what the national standards require.

For teachers in Queensland secondary schools who are involved in delivering VET in Schools (VETiS) programs, the qualification requirements extend beyond a teaching registration or degree. Under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015, anyone who delivers nationally recognised training and assesses competency within an RTO must hold TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or an approved equivalent.

This requirement applies regardless of whether the delivery happens in a school or any other setting. The fact that a teacher holds a four-year degree and full teaching registration does not satisfy the VET sector's trainer and assessor qualification requirement.

Why does this requirement exist?

The VET sector operates under a national regulatory framework that is separate from the school registration system. When a school partners with an RTO to deliver VETiS qualifications, the RTO is responsible for ensuring that the training and assessment meets the national standards. This includes ensuring that the teachers involved in delivery and assessment hold the required credentials.

Schools that partner with Blueprint Career Development can be confident that our VETiS delivery meets these requirements. For teachers who are delivering as part of a Blueprint partnership and do not yet hold TAE40122, we can discuss pathways to meet the qualification requirement.

What about the VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set?

The TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set is a shorter credential that provides an introduction to the VET system for teachers new to VETiS delivery. It is not a substitute for TAE40122 for teachers who are conducting formal competency assessments, but it can serve as a useful starting point or a bridge qualification while a teacher completes the full TAE40122.

Blueprint Career Development delivers both the TAESS00024 skill set and TAE40122. Contact us to discuss which pathway is appropriate for your school or your own role.
