What Is TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment?

TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the nationally recognised qualification for people who train and assess in Australia's vocational education and training (VET) sector. It is the baseline credential required under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 for anyone who delivers nationally recognised training and conducts formal competency assessments.

The qualification covers the core skills and knowledge that trainers and assessors need to do their job to a professional standard. This includes:

  • Designing and developing learning programs based on training packages
  • Planning and delivering training sessions using a range of methods
  • Designing and developing assessment tools
  • Assessing competency and making sound, defensible assessment decisions
  • Addressing adult language, literacy and numeracy needs in training and assessment
  • Working effectively within the VET regulatory framework

TAE40122 replaced the earlier TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Trainers who currently hold TAE40116 are required to upgrade, and there are specific transition pathways available to do so without repeating the full qualification.
