How to Get Started With a VETiS Program at Your School

Starting a VETiS program involves choosing qualifications, partnering with an RTO, and enrolling students — here's how, plus answers to common questions.

The process of establishing a VETiS program at a school involves several key steps:

  • Identify the qualifications that best suit your student cohort and school context
  • Contact an approved RTO to discuss delivery options, fees, and funding eligibility
  • Review and sign a partnership agreement (Third Party Agreement or Service Level Agreement)
  • Confirm resource and equipment requirements with the RTO
  • Enrol students and collect USI registration details
  • Begin training delivery in line with the agreed program schedule
  • RTO manages ongoing assessment, compliance, and reporting

Blueprint Career Development guides schools through every step of this process. Our team manages compliance, assessment, and reporting so that school staff can focus on what they do best — supporting their students.

                Frequently Asked Questions About VETiS

                What does VETiS stand for?

VETiS stands for Vocational Education and Training in Schools. It is sometimes written as VET in Schools or VETIS. All three forms refer to the same national initiative.

Is VETiS the same as TAFE?

No. VETiS is delivered within secondary schools, designed specifically for students in Years 10–12, and contextualised to a school environment. TAFE is a provider of post-secondary vocational education open to adult learners. Some qualifications are available through both TAFE and VETiS, but the delivery context, student age group, and funding arrangements are different. Blueprint's VETiS programs are built specifically for the school setting, with school-friendly assessment and dedicated trainer support.

Do teachers need special qualifications to deliver VETiS?

Teachers who facilitate VETiS training within a Third Party Agreement model are generally required to hold the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or the TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set as a minimum. Blueprint offers professional development programs for school teachers to obtain these qualifications.

How long does a VETiS qualification take to complete?

Most VETiS qualifications are designed to be completed over one to two years of senior schooling, typically Years 11 and 12. Certificate I qualifications may be completed in a single year. The duration depends on the number of units required, the timetabled hours available, and the delivery model agreed between the school and the RTO.

Can students receive both a VETiS qualification and their senior school credential?

Yes. VETiS qualifications are designed to complement, not replace, the senior schooling credential. In Queensland, VETiS qualifications can contribute QCE credits towards the Queensland Certificate of Education. Students graduate with both their school credential and their vocational qualification.

What happens if a student does not complete all units of a VETiS qualification?

Students who complete some but not all units of competency within a qualification may be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units they have successfully completed. This is still a formal credential under the AQF and is recognised by employers and further training providers.
