How VETiS Qualifications Are Structured

VETiS qualifications sit within the Australian Qualifications Framework, with levels ranging from Certificate I through to Certificate IV.

Choosing the right VETiS qualification is one of the most important subject selection decisions a secondary school student can make. The right choice can open genuine career pathways, contribute towards the Queensland Certificate of Education, and set a student up with a qualification that employers recognise and value.

The wrong choice — or no choice at all — is a missed opportunity. Students who disengage from the traditional academic curriculum without a vocational pathway to fall back on often leave school without the credentials or confidence they need to succeed in the workforce.

VETiS qualifications are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) — the nationally recognised system of qualifications in Australia. They are structured around units of competency, each of which describes a specific skill or knowledge area that a student must demonstrate to a defined industry standard.

Qualifications are available at several levels:

AQF Level

Qualification Type

Typical VETiS Context

Level 1

Certificate I

Foundation vocational skills, introductory industry exposure

Level 2

Certificate II

Industry-specific skills for entry-level employment or further study

Level 3

Certificate III

Skilled vocational work with some complexity and autonomy

Level 4

Certificate IV

Supervisory and technical skills — less common in school VETiS

Higher-level qualifications generally involve more units of competency and a greater depth of skill, and can contribute more towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) than lower-level qualifications. Exact QCE credit allocations are determined by QCAA based on the size and level of each qualification — Blueprint's team can provide current guidance for the qualifications we deliver.
