What Schools Need to Know Before Partnering With an RTO for VETiS Delivery
A school-RTO partnership is a significant relationship — knowing what to expect before you sign is essential.
A school-RTO partnership for VETiS delivery is one of the most consequential relationships a school can establish. The RTO is responsible for the quality and integrity of every qualification your students receive — and the partnership structure means the school's reputation is connected to the RTO's performance.
Before signing a partnership agreement, here are the essential things a school needs to understand.
What the RTO is responsible for
Under the Standards for RTOs, the RTO is accountable for:
- The quality and compliance of all training and assessment conducted under its registration
- Ensuring that trainers (including school-based teachers involved in delivery) hold the required qualifications
- Issuing qualifications and statements of attainment to students who have been assessed as competent
- Maintaining accurate student records and assessment documentation
What the school is responsible for
The school's responsibilities in a VETiS partnership typically include:
- Facilitating access to learners, facilities and delivery resources
- Supporting teachers involved in VETiS delivery to meet the RTO's trainer qualification requirements
- Communicating student enrolment information and maintaining appropriate school-side records
- Supporting the RTO's quality assurance processes, including validation activities
Key questions to ask a prospective RTO partner
- Is the RTO currently registered with ASQA and does its scope include the qualifications the school wants to offer?
- Does the RTO hold current Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) approval for Queensland schools seeking funded programs?
- What qualification requirements does the RTO set for teachers involved in delivery and assessment?
- What support does the RTO provide to teachers who need to complete TAE40122 or TAESS00024?
- What does the RTO's assessment quality management process look like, and how does validation work?
